Day 5.1 – Silver Sentinels

 

Once a pine forest green surrounding

                A pond of aqua blue.

The hungry flames of a fire roared around

                A pond of aqua blue.


Here silver sentinels stand tall watching over

                A pond of aqua blue.

A trout swims lazily in the depths of

                A pond of aqua blue.


Silver sentinels fell and now vanish into the deeps of

                A pond of aqua blue.

A new forest of alder green springs up around

                A pond of aqua blue.


Like a phoenix, the forest will flourish again

Guarded by silver sentinels surrounding

                A pond of aqua blue.

Day Twenty-Two – Lobsta’ Fishin’

While sitting on the bank of the Atlantic Ocean, we perused flyers and visitor information magazines we had picked up. One flyer in particular caught our eye. A two-hour trip with a lobster fisherman while he pulled his lobster pots. Better yet, the excursion left from the port of Ogunquit which was just a short distance up the coast from us. The following day with a calm ocean under a blue sky we boarded the boat to go “Lobsta’ Fishin” (the new England accent was pretty pronounced in parts of Maine). Our captain has a string of pots just offshore from the port. While we cruised to pick the first pot, we learned that lobster fisherman can have up to 80 pots out. They alternate picking some pots while others are soaking. The lobster fishery is highly regulated. Each of the feisty lobster caught in the pots were carefully measured to determine if it could be kept or if it had to return to the ocean. Day Two – Diamonds and Daydreams

We found our next camp along the shore of Diamond Lake with the towering Mt. Thielson keeping watch over us. A cloudy first day gave us some rainbows and puffy pink clouds. It seemed to us that the mountain looked an awful lot like the mountain that The Grinch lives in, so we kept watch for him. This was a great campground and our site was right on the lake. During the day, we had frequent visitors in the form of gray jays, squirrels, ducks, and geese. Later that night, the sparks from our campfire flew away into the black night and brought back with them a brilliant sunrise. As the sun rose behind Mt. Thielson, first there was a glimmer, then there was a silvery rim, and finally the sun rose, a white diamond above the black mountain.  The suns rays spread more diamonds across the lake surface.  What a beautiful way to start our day.

Days Seven through Eleven – Family Time!

We travelled to the land of Paul Bunyan and his faithful friend, Babe, the blue ox. The primary goal for this trip was to travel to Bemidji, MN, to celebrate my sister and brother-in-law’s Golden wedding anniversary.  It was a wonderful gathering with lots of laughter, hugs, reminisces, and food! Although we live far apart, they are never far from our thoughts.  It was great to catch up on the recent events of all the generations. After several days, it was time for a Minnesota “good bye”.
