Day 2 – The Chasm
Just north
of the little town of Clinton, BC, is a Provincial Park called “The Chasm”. Well, that
sounded interesting, so off we went down the dirt road. We rolled up and down
along a winding road through a mixed forest of pine, fir, and birch trees.
The area we have been, and will be, driving over is called the Fraser Plateau. Geologists believe that it was formed millennia ago by a series of lava flows. At the end of the last ice age, the melting water created a waterfall that eventually carved the canyon.
There were a few scattered ranches and homes with cattle lying in the fields.
We rounded a corner to find a gaping canyon.

Each of the different basalt layers represents another lava flow. Water is such a powerful force and nature applies that force with such ease.
Back to Hwy
97 north towards Prince George for tonight and then on to the Cassiar Hwy the following day. From this point on for the next couple of weeks, it may be a few days between each post due to lack of internet.
