Day 20 - Bodacious Bar BQ
We had many people tell us, “You have to try some Texas BBQ!” So we had been looking for a place to do so as we traversed back and forth across the state. There were many likely spots to try this mandatory food, but the times we saw them just didn’t coincide with a lunch or dinner time. Or we had just eaten elsewhere. But we kept looking.
Finally,
heading north in east Texas we found ourselves traveling through a town during
lunch time. A quick Google search showed many likely places. We opted to try Bodacious BBQ which was right
on our way.
Several employees were quickly filling the orders for customers at both the counter and the drive-up window. There were cases and cases containing Bodacious Bar BQ packets of seasoning. Also, they had racks with gallon jugs and quart sized bottles of their own barbeque sauces. Those seemed like good signs as well. As I waited to place our order, I could see a man at a workstation behind the counter chopping up a mountain of smoked meat.
Waiting
for our order to be filled, I had time to look around the walls of this quaint
restaurant. There were historical photos, rustic memorabilia, and just an
interesting hodgepodge of items displayed on shelves.
Our meal arrived and it did not disappoint! We really enjoyed the barbequed ribs, pulled pork, sliced beef, and sausage slathered with their own BBQ sauce. In addition, the side dishes all had unique flavouring. For example, the beans were pinto beans, but without what we know as the typical sweet baked bean flavour. The potatoe salad was served warm, had a lemony flavour, and was a brownish yellow.
Once we had tasted the unique flavours, we had to buy some of their packaged seasonings and barbeque sauce to bring home. I don’t know if we can re-create the delicious food once we get back to Wood’s Prairie, but we will sure give it a try!
