Day 3 - Phillipsburg – Part 2

Another of our favorite places in Phillipsburg is the Phillipsburg Brewery. This small brewery was established in 2012 by Kathy and Nolan in what was originally a bank. The bank vault is still there today thus this location is known by patrons as “The Vault”.

They have a second location in town for the summer months when it gets really busy. That building houses a natural spring. This water is bottled for many organizations and companies throughout Montana. Of course, the locals call this location of the Phillipsburg Brewery, “The Spring”.

Now, they are really serious about their beer here at The Vault. The old wooden bar has a strip of copper  metal that runs the length of it. The copper is cooled from below, so a glass of beer will stay cold when placed on the strip. When you order a beer, if you don’t keep it on the strip, the bartender will tell you in no uncertain terms that the proper location for a pint is on that metal strip.

This brewery has several award winning beers – Badfinger Porter, Haybag, and Pumpkin Spice (only
served in the fall). However, my favorite is the Razzu, which is a raspberry beer that tastes especially delicious on a hot summer day! Yes, I place my pint on the cold copper strip, but it doesn’t last long enough anyway to get warm.

Cheers!
