Day 18 – Buffalo Ridge

Sitting atop a hill overlooking the town of Custer if the Buffalo Ridge RV campground. We had stayed here several years ago, but they have made a number of improvements since then. In addition to the shower and laundry facilities, they now have both an adult and general swimming pool along with a jacuzzi.

There are a wide range of accommodations. We stayed in the typical RV site on nice gravel pads with grass between sites. There is also a whole hillside of tent sites. However, campers can also now stay in a tipi that has a king size bed or go glamping in a canvas tent. As if these weren’t enough options, they now have some really fancy tree houses and cabins.

Buffalo Ridge is a family friendly camp with a super
playground and acres of grass to run on. There are walking/biking trails and activities like corn hole set up in different locations.  I know I would have loved to stay at this camp when I was little.

As it turned out, we pulled in to camp and later in the evening a large thunderstorm moved through the area. We enjoyed watching the lightning show for several hours, from a covered porch. Although there was quite a bit of rain overnight, by the following afternoon it had cleared up.

The location of Buffalo Ridge in the southern portion of the Black Hills made a convenient basecamp where we could take the camper off the truck while we drove the narrow and winding roads of the park. Getting everything cleaned up and internet tasks caught up was awesome.
