Day 22 – Cheena Hot Springs

One offshoot road northeast of Fairbanks leads to the Cheena Hot Springs resort. That road led to a day of soaking in the most unique hot spring we’ve ever been to. There is a “Rock Pool” that is surrounded by huge boulders where the main hot spring bubbles up through a sandy bottom. This is an adult only pool because it gets really hot in places.

Water jets and waterfalls bring in cooler water which has the effect of different temperatures in different locations. Pat doesn’t mind the hot water, but I am pretty wimpy about hot water, so I found the coolest locations in the pool. That was still pretty hot, but luckily, they also have an indoor family pool that is much cooler!

Originally, we thought that there were just the hot springs, but the resort has many different activities. You can go on an ATV or Jeep ride, tour their ice museum, hike trails, get a massage, or ride bikes. They have hotel rooms, a campground, and an airport too. Oh, and of course there was a gift shop.

Overall, it was a very relaxing day after our three weeks of travel.
