6/29/19 - Day 1 - Time to Follow the North Star

A reasonably early wake up, had us leaving the house just after 7 on Saturday.  Our goal for the day - get through the Canadian Border at the Peace Arch in Blaine. A clear day and light traffic (at least for Seattle) had us at the border by 11! Only a 45 minute wait and relatively few questions about our plans, where we were headed,  and we were on our way again! I'd had visions of the border patrol rummaging through the camper to find all the nooks and crannies in which I had stored food. Nope! Just, "Do you have any guns or ammunition?
Emphatically we said  "No!"
Then he asked about bear spray, our reply, "Yes, we do".
The agent, "Is it marked?" It was, so he sent us on our way.
We had looked at a few different routes north and had opted for the Sea-to-Sky Hwy which runs through Vancouver, past Whistler, and then up and over the coast mountains back to the Caribou Hwy (97) near Cache Creek.
First we had to get through Vancouver. Crazy, a large city like that and the freeway literally runs through the main downtown. Sure glad we weren't trying it during rush hour!
Vancouver had some very interesting architecture in places. Really STEEP roofs on new structures mixed with well maintained historical looking buildings.
The Sea-to-Sky highway winds around Howe Sound and is literally carved into the coast mountains.  Yes, you look at the sea to the west and swivel your head to the east and crane to see the tops of the peaks.
We camped at Stawamus Chief campground and had a chance to look over maps, watch some crazy rock climbers, and try out the new camera. I resized thsee pictures before inserting them. If you can send some feedback about how they open that would be awesome.
Tomorrow, we continue on up and over the Coast Range through Lilloet toward Cache Creek..
